Demolition of an underground car park: planning, safety, waste disposal
Lhotzky and Partners planned and coordinated the work for the design of a safety concept, a pollutant register and a disposal concept. Furthermore the company was tasked with the creation of a work- and safety-plan and the specifications for tenders for the demolition of an underground car park in Hamburg.
Challenges with the demolition
Specifics of this mission
- There is a contamination by petroleum-derived hydrocarbons.
- At the execution an access for fire fighters has to be kept clear.
- Furthermore a couple of endangered deserving trees at the site had to be left undamaged.
We design a comprehensive project concept, that takes into account all frame conditions. At the end detailed tender documents come out.

Execution, demolition underground car park
On site we observe the progress of work by the hired contractor. The demolition proceeds as planned. At first the roof and the floor of the car park were consecutively prised open and removed as planned. Parallelly concrete and steel reinforcement were separated according to the rules. Afterwards the demolition contractor filled the cavern with sand. Well visible on the photo: The temporary stabilization of the upcoming car park walls.
